Esch-sur-Sûre

This town of 250 residents is the second-smallest commune (communes are nation-wide administrative divisions of which Luxembourg, the country, has 116) in Luxembourg. Esch-sur-Sûre is located in northwest Luxembourg and is a 45-minute drive from Luxembourg City. The river Sauer winds through the area and Upper Lake Sûre is to the west.

There’s a lot of hiking trails, a castle and a few (really. No more than a handful) cute, winding streets. Although we did not try it, the good restaurant in town is supposedly Restaurant Comte Godefroy. Instead, we enjoyed Belgian beers on the sunny patio of one of the two Diekirch-owned bars with wholly unappetizing looking food at the entrance to the town.
