Five Oceanos, Porto

Our flaming fish (brined then roasted)

We asked the concierge for a good seafood restaurant recommendation and he pointed us toward the beach. We weren’t so keen on taking a 20-minute cab ride, but he assured us that Five Oceanos was his neighborhood spot and we couldn’t go wrong.

Fresh fish

The restaurant did not disappoint. There’s a huge bin of fresh fish near the entrance. After you order, the waiter retrieves the fish from the pile and brings it over to the table for inspection.

The colorful exterior

Though the menu offers many types of fish (the usual suspects), it’s best to order from the day’s catch. Like in many similar seafood restaurants, the cost is per kilogram, so be specific about the size you’re expecting or be prepared to open your wallet.

Interior

Like many restaurants in Porto (irrespective of price and ambiance), there was a television tuned to a sports channel.
