IFC Center

IFC Center, New York City

This is one Manhattan’s best theatres. You might remember it as Waverly Theatre, which it was until 2005.  The lobby is still cramped and patrons still line up prior to movie time, but the five cinemas are modern, the popcorn is organic and dressed with real butter and the film line-up continues to impress. In addition to showing new independent features, documentaries and foreign films, it shows cult movies on weekends and short films prior to every feature (called, aptly, Short Attention Span Cinema).

Most recently, I saw “Bill Cunningham New York”, which is a moving, informative, entertaining documentary of an iconic and beloved photographer/social observer/commentator.

This entry kicks off a sporadic series of my favorite NYC establishments.
