Konrad’s is my favorite place to meet a friend for coffee or lunch. It’s comfortable and cozy in a mismatched-furniture kind of way, with an appealing menu featuring sandwiches, salads, soups and quiches. The menu is tight and there’s something for all dietary preferences.
In addition to being delicious, the food is made on-site using seasonal, local, organic ingredients.
To drink, Konrad’s features excellent specialty coffees and teas, draught Simon Pils and Okult beer and some lovely organic wines. And for desserts, I can vouch for the generous slices of chocolate and carrot cakes!
Konrad’s is especially wonderful in the evenings since its firm no-smoking policy sets it apart from the other watering holes in town.
The café is located on a narrow cobblestone street at the edge of the city center, so the clientele tends to be easygoing locals. Every time I’ve been, there’s a large expat contingency, probably because the staff speaks English.
There’s also a whole basement culture, featuring a monthly comedy club, quiz nights and open mic nights.
Konrad’s is open M-S 10 a.m. – 1 a.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. – 1 a.m.
