Mapusa is the largest town in northern Goa and is known for its markets. The most popular one is Friday Market, which I missed.
Although I was not seeking any of the items sold, it was fun to look around at the piles of textiles, bins of household tools and spreads of produce, flowers and spices.
Of course, all the vendors were pros at aggressively promoting their wares, as well as negotiating against themselves. Without my even saying a word, they would come down in price.
I’m sure it would be great fun to smuggle dried fish or potatoes out of the country, but I resisted the urge to buy.
