Musée Angladon, Avignon, France

The collector, Jacques Doucet

What’s better than a house museum? A house museum that doubles as an art museum.

The downstairs gallery

Musée Angladon houses the art collection of couturier Jacques Doucet. Though he never occupied the building, Hôtel de Massilian (named after the family that occupied it in the 18th century), his descendent who generously donated and funded the museum did.

Museum’s exterior

The museum contains masterpieces from the 19th and 20th centuries that were, incredibly, purchased directly from the artists. Imagine buying some early works from your friend, Degas! There are also paintings by Manet, Sisley, Modigliani, Cézanne and Picasso.

The only Van Gogh you’ll see in Provence

The only Van Gogh painting in Provence, Railway Wagons, is on display.
