Figurengruppe (Group of Figures), Katharina Fritsch

Figurengruppe (Group of Figures) soaks up the sun in MOMA’s Sculpture Garden. Katharina Fritsch’s installation features nine life-size sculptures of, among other figures, St. Michael, a Madonna, a giant, and a snake in bronze, copper, and stainless steel.

Inside, Erin and I viewed the striking exhibit German Expressionism: The Graphic Impulse, which showcased German Expressionists’ bold printmaking. The survey begins with the Brücke artists group in 1905, then takes the viewer through WWI, then into the 1920s. 30 artists are featured, including E.L. Kirchner, Max Beckmann and Erich Heckel. Etchings, lithographs, drawings, paintings and sculptures round out this comprehensive exhibit.

11 West 53rd Street, NY, NY, open 7 days/week this summer
