European Christmas Markets

Chocolate Ornaments or Ornament Chocolates?

‘Tis the season for holiday markets! I always love to support local businesses and there’s no better place to do it than in the quaint Christmas markets (yes, that’s right – these are all Christian, all the time) that pop up all over Europe. Grab a glühwein or nog and wander the aisles for unique gifts and holiday staples such as ornaments, toys, knit hats, baked goods, nuts, candles, glassware and jewelry.

This is the first season I’ve experienced European holiday markets as a local. In the past, I sampled markets in whatever city I happened to be in, like Prague and Vienna. Such sampling involved binging on glühwein and every kind of pastry offered. After all, who knew when I’d get another chance? The set-ups in Union Square and Bryant Park didn’t quite compare.

Now here I am in Luxembourg, a city with its own festive Christmas market, complete with all the warm alcoholic drinks and empty-calorie pastries a girl could want! Additionally, many of Europe’s best markets are within an easy drive.
