Birdhouse, McCarthy Square, NYC

Vertical city, vertical birdhouse

This tiny, triangular Greenwich Village square resulted from Seventh and Eighth Avenues’ extensions south of 14th Street in the early 1900’s. In 1943, the site was named in honor of U.S. Marine Bernard Joseph McCarthy, the first reported Greenwich Village resident killed in WWII.
