1 WTC, Ground Zero

One World Trade Center

I visited ground zero yesterday, the eve of the most horrible, memorable day in NYC history. I knew it would be hard if not impossible to go down today, since security would be increased and streets would be closed for the memorial ceremony. It’s always hard to visit the 16-acre area, which is now the world’s largest construction site, but the progress that’s been made helps everyone look hopefully toward the future.

I thought it would be meaningful to show the new tower up close. When 1 WTC is completed in 2013, the roof parapet will reach 1,368 feet and the antenna spire will reach 1,776 feet, making it the tallest building in the city and one of the tallest in the world. Currently, it is about 80 stories high.

We’re on the right track.
