Is it me, or is Strasbourg the Las Vegas of France? The city spares no expense in glitzing the place up for Old St. Nick. Rest assured that no incandescent bulbs are being used, this being the EU and all.
Strasbourg is the capital and principal city in the Alsace region. It is close to the German border and has historically been German-speaking, which explains its Germanic name. Much like the only child of divorced parents, Strasbourg has historically been in the delicate position of bridging the tumultuous relationship between France and Germany.
About 300,000 people live in this charming city, which is also the seat of several European institutions such as the Council of Europe, Eurocorps and the European Parliament. Another claim to fame is the University of Strasbourg, which is the largest university in France.
