La Collegiata di San Vittore

Early morning sun on San Vittore

This church sits in the middle of Cannobio and was built in the 18th century over an earlier medieval Romanesque church. The Romanesque bell tower is from the 12th century.

The neoclassical façade is from the 19th century. The spire was rebuilt in the 20th century.

Of course, the main attraction here is the Holy Rib from the Miracle of Piety, kept in the church’s ancient dome. Each January 7th, it is taken down and brought to the Sanctuary during the ceremony. On January 8th, the rib is returned to the dome for one more year.
