Oh, vel’oh!

Luxembourg’s bicycle share system is the best bargain in town. The first half hour of use is free; thereafter the first hour is 1€ and up to 24 hours is 5€. What better way to sightsee or get from Point A to Point B than on two wheels?

There are 54 stations in Luxembourg’s city centre.

7-day ticket: Use your European bankcard (a chip and pin ATM card, not an American-issued one) to get a 7-day ticket. Insert your card into the machine, choose a secret code and receive a ticket with an account number. Then, enter the account number into the machine every time you want to rent a bike. Fee: 1€.

Or, buy a one-year subscription. Complete the subscription form online or get one from your town hall, the Bierger-Center or the LCTO. Send the form, along with a copy of your ID card or passport, to: JCDecaux, 90, rue de Cessange, L-1320 Luxembourg. In my experience, it takes about two weeks to receive an account number in the mail. Note: only Luxembourg banks are accepted for the monthly direct debit as well as the security deposit of 150€. Fee: 15€.
