Poggio Antico produces what Montalcino is most famous for – Brunello di Montalcino.
We tasted two Brunellos and a Super Tuscan. The microclimate, high altitude and winemaking process contribute to turning out elegant, complex wines. Poggio adheres to the traditional method and refines the wine in barrels for at least three years and in bottles for at least one year.
We bought a few bottles of wine and some olive oil, which we can’t wait to try!
Though the winery is well-equipped for visitors, complete with friendly employees and a separate tasting room, it’s necessary to make an appointment in advance.
